Mazda's i-Activ all-wheel drive system features sensors that check road conditions 200 times per second. Designed to detect and react to road conditions, i-Activ boosts driver confidence without compromising driving pleasure.
The i-Activ AWD system uses numerous sensors to determine the driver's intentions. Is the driver about to accelerate? How far is the steering wheel turned? How much pressure is applied to the brakes? These are just some of the things the system will react to, to achieve an optimal level of control.
i-Activ AWD continuously monitors outside temperature, wiper operation, the amount of torque needed to turn the front wheels and the load imposed on the engine. The system can detect if it's snowing or raining, and if the road is slippery as the driver climbs a hill or begins to turn. Ultimately, i-Activ all-wheel drive accurately prevents skidding.
i-Activ all-wheel drive is designed to deliver just the right amount of torque to the rear wheels to prevent skidding. In doing so, it provides the traction typical of a four-wheel-drive vehicle, while minimizing fuel consumption.
The ideal distribution of torque to the front and rear wheels, the result of clever calculations made 200 times a second by the innovative i-Activ all-wheel drive control module, ensures better responsiveness, and a more assured ride.
The i-Activ All-Wheel Drive Control Module applies the necessary torque to the wheels to deliver an exceptionally stable driving experience with better control during acceleration, cornering, braking and slippage.
i-Activ all-wheel drive was designed to deliver exceptional responsiveness while defying fuel efficiency conventions. To achieve the combination of all-wheel drive benefits and excellent fuel economy, we had to reduce the weight of system components and minimize frictional losses.
